While The GOP & The President Debate How Badly To Screw The Old & Sick, The Beat Goes On

We have a huge debt problem in this country. A decade of out of control security spending, that was unpaid for, has left us in a bad place. The response in Washington as reflected by the news media has been to blame the elderly and the sick. Meanwhile the corrupt and out of control war machine rolls on. It is more important for us to prop up the warlords and drug barons of Afghanistan than to provide health and opportunity at home. The only security we really seem to be providing is for the arms dealers who are making a killing.

For your consideration we offer these posts:

Why Is the Most Wasteful Government Agency Not Part of the Deficit Discussion?
“ In all the talk about the federal deficit, why is the single largest culprit left out of the conversation? Why is the one part of government that best epitomizes everything conservatives say they hate about government—- waste, incompetence, and corruption—all but exempt from conservative criticism?…….
And these are only the tips of the military’s misspending iceberg. We really don’t know how much the Pentagon wastes because, believe it or not, there hasn’t been a complete audit of the Pentagon in more than 15 years.

In 1994, the Government Management Reform Act required the Inspector General of each federal agency to audit and publish the financial statements of their agency. The Department of Defense was the only agency that has been unable to comply. In fiscal 1998 the Department of Defense used $1.7 trillion of undocumentable adjustments to balance the books. In 2002 the situation was even worse. CBS News reported that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld admitted, “we cannot track $2.3 trillion in transactions.”

Imagine that a school district were to reveal that it didn’t know where it spent its money. Now imagine the Republican response. Perhaps, “Off with their desktops!”

Debt Political Theater Diverts Attention While Americans’ Wealth Is Stolen
by Dennis Kucinich

“The rancorous debate over the debt belies a fundamental truth of our economy — that it is run for the few at the expense of the many, that our entire government has been turned into a machine which takes the wealth of a mass of Americans and accelerates it into the hands of the few. Let me give you some examples.

Take war. War takes the money from the American people and puts it into the hands of arms manufacturers, war profiteers, and private armies. The war in Iraq, based on lies: $3 trillion will be the cost of that war. The war in Afghanistan; based on a misreading of history; half a trillion dollars in expenses already. The war against Libya will be $1 billion by September.”

A look at a worldwide empire of military bases that should prompt the question why do we have troops in Japan?

For a bit of entertainment we go back forty years for a little music.

And because we like to beat our own drum a clip from our Mindsi2 station.
