Fear & Loathing In The 21st Century, Another Tale Of The American Racket

Carnival Barkers, Midway Hustlers and The Sound of The Fat Lady Singing

The President summed it up perfectly when he released his birth certificate after a two year right wing generated media firestorm. As the country slides into the worst financial crisis since the 1930’s we have been treated to this utter nonsense “story” And in a move that could have been predicted Donald Trump took credit for his part in the modern day lynch mob that of course like all such mobs had it wrong. The black man they’ve been hounding for two years was not guilty.

And when the final, final proof was offered was there a spate of apologies from the right for wasting all of our time? No of course not they immediately switched from the birth certificate now non issue to his school records or selective service records or social security number or any of a number of other scams the GOP is using to attack the president. It has been there sole goal since Obama was elected to attack him personally and do everything they can to stop his agenda and keep the economy from recovering.

The democrats for the most part have responded the way they always do. By taking the abuse and looking bad doing it. But that’s their role in this two part farce that is called modern American politics. The Republicans role is to be as crazy far right as possible so nobody notices as the Democrats abandon their core principals and lurch to the right. Instead of defending their vales and launching a strong defense of the programs that created the economic power that was mid 20th century America.

This is all just part of the corporate takeover of the country and it is one of the ongoing stories that we at MindsiMedia are telling. Following the Great Depression came Roosevelts New Deal which helped create the working middle class and it has been fought tooth and nail by the wealthy since the beginning. Indeed if not for the courageous action of Marine commandant Smeadly Butler a coup financed by Wall Street interests might have overthrown Roosevelt. Here is a link to a video that outlines this little known part of American history;

But as usual I’m drifting from where I was going in the beginning to the midway and the land of republican carnival barkers. The ones shouting “hey don’t watch that watch this” as they keep us distracted from what’s really important. So what I want to do is occasionaly pick out one of these turd blossoms and share some of their mean spirited, stupid crazy world view. So for out first installment of your GOP let me present Rep. Blake Farenthold from the great state of Texas. I came across this story about him on Current TV.

GOP Rep. Blake Farenthold Compares Unemployed Americans To Alcoholics & Drug Users

“At one point during the session, a man asked about drug testing for “welfare recipients.” Farenthold said that this is an idea worth considering, and then went on to complain that unemployment insurance is too generous. He then compared Americans on unemployment insurance to alcoholics and drug addicts:

FARENTHOLD: Drug testing for recipients of various welfare programs, I really think that’s something that needs to be considered. We’ve gotta, you know, nobody wants to starve anybody. Everybody wants to help folks out. But we’ve got a system where you can stay on unemployment for an awfully long time. And I think we need to create a system of decreasing benefits over time to encourage you to get a job. I think anybody who’s had an alcoholic in their life or somebody with a drug problem, realizes that until things get bad enough there’s no incentive to change. I think that we’re so generous in some of our social problems that people are unwilling to get a job outside in the heat. Rather than get 15 dollars to go get roofing they’d rather get 9 or 10 dollars in benefits. I think drug testing is not an unreasonable requirement to get benefits.”
